歴史ある新しいスイーツ「山田竹風軒」 historic sweets shop

津和野の町を歩くと、甘いいい匂いがしてきます。

 その匂いは、創業１３０年の歴史をもつ和菓子屋、山田竹風軒からやってくるものです。山田竹風軒の３つの魅力を紹介します。

When we walk through the town of Tsuwano, it smells sweet and nice. The smell comes from the Japanese sweets shop= Yamada-Chikuhu-Ken, which was built 130 years ago. We will introduce three good points of the shop.

• 津和野名物　源氏巻　
  見た目はまるで大きなスマートフォンのようです。甘いあんこがカステラ生地に巻かれています。かつて、ある日本人が役人にこっそり小判を渡そうとしました。その小判を隠すために包んだお菓子が源氏巻だったのです。山田竹風軒では創業当時の作り方を受け継いで、伝統的なやさしい味を大切にしています。

• 源氏巻の手焼き体験
  山田竹風軒では、お菓子を食べるだけでなく、作って楽しむことも出来ます。大きな鉄板の上でのクッキングはわくわくすること間違いなしです。おなかがすいてくるような生地の焼ける音とにおいをぜひ体験してください。

• 伝統あるお菓子の変身
  山田竹風軒には源氏巻のような伝統あるお菓子がたくさんあります。しかし、今、それらが新しく変身しているのです。例えば、“源氏巻アイス”があります。さきほど紹介した源氏巻が、あんこを使った夏にぴったりのアイスに生まれ変わりました。このお菓子は、津和野の新しい名物になりつつあります。

• “Genjimaki”　It is the specialty in Tsuwano

(The name “Genji” comes from the tale of Genji written by Murasaki Shikibu who was a female writer more than 1000 years ago)

It looks like a big smartphone!? Sweet red bean cream is wrapped around castella dough. At once, a Japanese people secretly tried to give an oval to an official. Then, the sweet that was used to hide the oval was “Genjimaki”. In Yamada-Chikuhu-Ken, people inherit original how to make sweets, and good care of traditional tender tastes.

• The handmade experience of “Genjimaki”

You can enjoy not only to eat sweets but also to cook them. Cooking on a large iron plate will excite you. We hope you’ll experience sound and smell that makes you hungry.

You can enjoy cooking it only holidays for end of March to early November by the Honmachi-shop(1pm. – 3pm.).

You don’t have to reserve.

• Change of traditional sweets

Yamada-Chikihu-Ken has a lot of traditional sweets. However now, they are changing new sweets. For example, the shop sells “Genjimaki ice”. Genjimaki has been reborn as a perfect ice cream for summer. These sweets are becoming new specialty in Tsuwano.
